It's been two months since the accident. Two months since our life as we knew it, completely changed. A depressing month injured, traumatized, and stuck at home was followed by a healing, love-filled vacation. I was initially excited to come back but it has honestly been more challenging than I expected.
I love my job, I love teaching clients how to train and become their best selves. Coming back to work has been more challenging than I anticipated, though. I feel overwhelmed, anxious, even scared, both with starting my personal training business back up, and with my own injuries and fitness. It will take a lot of time to get to where I want to be.
It can be overwhelming when you have big goals ahead of you and you feel depressed or unable to make any changes, stuck in your current situation.
I've been down before, felt lost, this same anxious, depressed mood. Every single time, I've come out stronger. No mater the challenge, no matter how far you are from your goals, there are only two options- give up and walk away, or breathe, create a plan, and take it one day at a time. The first option, for me, is not an option at all.
Being a trainer for almost 10 years now, I've seen for myself what training can do- it completely changes your life. Even if you want to lose 100 pounds, you don't focus on how big that goal is, or how far away you are from reaching it. There is scientific evidence that helps us understand behavior change psychology, exercise goals, nutrition... and helps us break down those huge, overwhelming goals into small, manageable steps. Building confidence in the process and in yourself, achieving multiple successive goals, will get you to where you want to be. It also eliminates this anxiety, feeling like you'll never succeed, because every step you take is one step closer to reaching your goals.
Through science, I've learned the most effective ways to lose body fat, build muscle, how to reach your goals, improve focus, etc. Now instead of feeling overwhelmed and unable to reach my goals, I have a plan- small steps I can take to accomplish any goal! Everything you want in life can be broken down into small, easy to digest goals. All I can do is focus on each day, big picture in mind, and create a routine, schedule and prioritize what I need to do, and every day gets better.
I can no longer see the world so negatively. I speak to myself just like I speak to a client. Nothing is too big or too difficult. Feeling stuck is normal, but I will say that starting with yourself, will take you exactly where you want to go. No matter what your goal is in life, starting with your body- exercise, proper nutrition, creating a routine- will give you the perfect base to become your best self. Through training, not only do you feel physically better, but you establish habits that make you successful, create a strong mindset that allows you to overcome any obstacle. You will become disciplined, confident, and like me, won't be able to see the world so negatively anymore. You will become superhuman, both inside and out, no longer a victim of your life, but an active participant. You choose what to do with your life, you take steps every day to be your best self, and you will be shocked at the person you become.
it is in our human nature to adapt. We adapt to anything- to being overweight, to being in pain, to being stressed, to our economic situations or personal relationships. You get used to it. Science also tells us that any change we seek, anything that is different from our normal routine, will be stressful and feel challenging. Even if you want to lose weight, eating healthier and going to the gym for the first time will feel terrible. Starting a new job, or leaving a bad relationship will also feel challenging, painful, and make you want to quit. It's the law of inertia- objects at rest stay at rest- and it requires a lot of energy to get something moving. But you will adapt!! Give it enough time, and you will learn how to live differently, think differently, and act differently. But don't quit!
This is what I do- apply science to my daily life, and see that everything is possible! Nothing is a barrier to my success- not even flying out of a motorcycle on the 405 and breaking my bones, leaving work for 2 months, and feeling like I'm re-starting my life. This is just a new starting point. Just like the terrible situations I've been in before, it feels like shit. Instead of focusing on what I can't do, and all the things swirling around my head, I break down my goals into small steps, and give myself a positive boost every time I reach them.
I cannot workout fully yet, and feel behind on everything, but what I can do is establish my routine, make healthy meals and eat 4x day, do light cardio and mobility, and dedicate a few hours each day to growing my business. That's it. No need to focus on anything else. If you resinate with any of this, I feel you. I feel strongly that starting to take better care of yourself, using science to find the best ways to do so, will help you wherever you are in your life too.
Apply for coaching in the link above, and let's get to work on making you superhuman too! Soon, you will not only feel and look better, but you will see that anything is possible.
